Techie Club, 11/19/14
Today in Techie Club we learned about micro controllers and microcomputers. We watched a presentation about what micro controllers are, and they are small objects that can be used to program other objects. Microcomputers are just computers that are small, like the Raspberry Pi. Also, micro controllers can only run 1 program. The micro controller we got to work with was called Arduino. It comes in various sizes, and one is even as small as a penny! You can connect wires and other things to them and make them do all kinds of things, so in a way it’s like Lego Robotics. You can connect the parts to a breadboard, which is a board that allows you to connect different electronic pieces. We then got to help program it, which is done with a computer and is fairly easy. The program we worked with made a light blink, and we played around with it to make it go faster and a different intervals. It was really fun!
P.S. I think I might do something with the Arduino at TechieLoka!

Peanut Butter and Jelly
Today in techie club we had to write the steps to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It was so hard. One of the volunteers went in the front and we had to tell him how to make the sandwich. They had to be more detailed than I thought. For example the step for just opening the peanut butter were: 1. Put one hand on the bottom of the jar. 2. Grab the blue part at the top. 3. Turn the blue part counter clockwise 10 times. 4. Grab the blue part. 5. Lift up the blue part. 6. Put the blue part on the table.
The whole point was that when you program the computer you have to be detailed. Each step is called an instructions and all of them together is an algorithm. There is a computer language too. That is the only language the computer can understand.

Scratch
Today we did scratch (look at the title.) So we started off by making are person whirling and changing colors. Then we did we have to click a color on the screen to change what our sprite looks like (sprite is a character in programming words.) So I’m done can’t wait till next week.
