This summer, more than 1,400 students will have an opportunity to participate in TECH CORPS summer programs designed to educate, excite and empower students with technology. Coding, Robotics, App Development and 3D printing are just some of the different topics that students will dive into this summer.

“Not only will we impact more students than ever in Ohio this summer,” said Lisa M. Chambers, National Executive Director of TECH CORPS.  “Thanks to a leadership investment from the Nordson Corporation Foundation, TECH CORPS is expanding programs to Georgia, New Jersey and Rhode Island.”

TECH CORPS programs serve students in the 3rd – 12th grades and run anywhere from one week to eight weeks.  Thanks to the support of a number of private and public donors, a majority of the programs offered this summer are free to families.

About TECH CORPS:

TECH CORPS was founded in 1995 by Gary Beach, Publisher Emeritus of CIO Magazine and author of The U.S. Technology Skills Gap. Gary envisioned an organization which would challenge American volunteers to help K-12 schools build a technology infrastructure — much like the Peace Corps challenges men and women to help developing countries build their infrastructures. Building from a state pilot in Massachusetts, TECH CORPS developed technology programs and deployed tech-savvy volunteers to assist K-12 schools and youth-serving organizations across the country. Over the years, partners such as Cisco, HP, Intel, Microsoft, and NCTA have provided TECH CORPS with the fuel to deliver much-needed technology resources to K-12 students and teachers. Since 1995, more than 15,000 TECH CORPS volunteers have shared their time and talents assisting schools and nonprofit organizations in their communities.  Visit TECH CORPS on the web at www.techcorps.org, @techcorps_org or www.facebook.com/techcorps.national

Aligning Our Program with the CSTA Standards

Increasing the availability of Computer Science offerings for all students, especially those who are members of underrepresented groups, is going to require an “all hands on deck” approach. Ensuring all students are exposed to the highest-quality curriculum and experiences can be realized if we commit to aligning our programs to the CSTA Computer Science Standards.
